A seventh-generation Floridian, Coleman Prewitt has the insight and vision to provide new leadership for Fort Lauderdale.  He grew up in Belle Glade, the son of Jerry Prewitt, a probation officer, and Barbara, an elementary school teacher. They were married in 1966, and Coleman was born the following year.

Always a good student, Coleman was valedictorian at Glades Day School, and then entered the University of Florida in the honors program.  He later earned a Bachelors degree in Finance from Florida Atlantic University.

After graduating, Coleman went to work with his father, who just started a new business providing probation services to Martin County.  Coleman worked with his father for three years before receiving a partial scholarship to the University of Miami School of Law.  He served as a senior editor of the University of Miami Law Review, and graduated fifth in his class in 1996.

Coleman began his career at the law firm of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart before moving to SBA Communications Corporation handling mergers and acquisitions.  Although he was only in his 30’s, Coleman and his partners soon formed Seidman, Prewitt, DiBello & Lopez, a successful mid-sized law firm that now has two offices in South Florida.

Today, Coleman is bringing his years of legal and lifetime of South Florida experience to the Fort Lauderdale Commission for District 4.
